CNCH!

Wow! We had a wonderful time at the Conference of Northern California Handweavers in Sacramento this past weekend. There were about 400 conference attendees from CA, NV and other states. Lots of incredible workshops, demos, galleries, and gatherings.

Gosh Yarn It! was fortunate to be one of the vendors at CNCH this year. Somehow, we got quite a bit of our totes, tools and accessories into an 8'x10' space! My husband had built a vendor booth display for previous fairs and shows. He did a great job modifying the woodwork to fit the space.

My daughter Joey helped set everything up, assisted with sales, demonstrated spinning and Tunisian crochet, and was in charge of fixing up and changing the display. My sons Ricky and Wilson helped with taking down the exhibit.

My sister Jessica and her boyfriend James helped out in our booth on Saturday. My in-laws came to visit. Also, two brother-in-laws, sister-in-law and two nieces stopped by to show support!

Joey sold 6 of her handspun yarns (money goes into her college account), including some that she spun up during the conference! She spun up yarns from batts that were custom-carded by her brothers.

We met a lot of nice people, learned more about weaving, and had a great time selling our products.

Chicago!

I just returned from a nice trip to Chicago. What a beautiful city! Of course, I had to stop at a yarn shop and a raw food restaurant before I left.

Here is some pictures of Nina...the most chic yarn shop I've ever seen! I bought some Habu loopy yarn, some gorgeous wool Malabrigo in pinks and browns, and a cute ladybug tape measure for my daughter. I'm wearing my Tunisian-crocheted shawl/scarf that I made out of Louisa Harding's Thalia yarn (bought at Babetta's Yarn shop in Fair Oaks, CA), and my Debbie Bliss Camelino, crocheted gloves with knitted Lion Brand Ruffles trim and flowers from Buffalo Gold yarn and my own handspun alpaca. It all kept me warm during the April wind and sleet!

For dinner, my husband and I went to Karyn's Raw Vegan Gourmet Restaurant. Also fabulous and chic! The food was amazing. I had raviolis which I think were made out of thinly sliced jicama, stuffed with a cheese made from macadamia nuts, and loaded with a tomato-basil-olive sauce. Appetizer was sliced celery in a yummy, buttery-spicy sauce. Along with a shot of wheatgrass, glass of fresh coconut juice, and a delectable lemon pie, I was full, healthy and happy! And to top it all off, Karyn also has a cafe and market next door. I bought some of her amazing raw cookies to snack on for my trip back home.

Jo Tan Designs Handspun Yarns

I am very proud to be selling handspun yarns from Jo Tan Designs! Well...she is my daughter, after all. Joey is 8 years old and she's quite a spinner. Mostly, she enjoys spinning on her Majacraft Little Gem II spinning wheel.

Her yarns are being featured in my Etsy shop during this next month. If you are on Ravelry, you can also see pics of her yarns in my stash (I'm "gyi" on Ravelry).

All of Joey's yarn proceeds go straight into her college fund.

She loves carding up batts full of special colors and fibers, then spinning them.
